Running since December 2003, AudioBooks4Hire.com began life in an effort to avoid two of today's pitfalls: boredom in the slow lane and clutter round the home.
We are a small, independent company that is proud to be wholly British owned. Our purpose is to provide the very best personal service to our library members and, the last time we checked out the UK marketplace*, we were still the cheapest by far for audio book rental.

Here's a bit from our founder, Rachel Davidson, explaining how the business came into being:
"If only our roads and motorways were traffic-jam free so driving could be a quick and pleasant experience. Well I haven't been able to free up the UK roads, but I have managed to make it seem as if everything is flowing smoothly at least part of the time.
I have cheered countless hours on the road by listening to a good book and my friend Catherine swears a good storyline makes her ironing pile shrink faster. Nikki thinks a 'who done it' while jogging by the river makes her speed up and when my sister took her children on holiday recently she said what a change a good children's book made to the usual, endlessly repeated nursery rhymes."
"The trouble is, buying all these audio books, even in slim-line CD format, quickly cluttered up our cars, our sitting rooms and our desk space. Borrowing them just had to be the answer but I found making time for frequent trips to the local public library next to impossible and other people I met did too."
